There are a lot of smokers out there and one reward they get from excessive smoking would be weakened gums and potential infections due to the nicotine and tar that they leave in the mouth. These are all given. But the thing is, if you choose to keep on smoking, this is the first thing you will note.

You can notice this when your teeth start to wiggle from place. Next thing you will know they have to be extracted. While it is not yet too late to quit, this is one good reason why you should. No matter what treatment you apply, smoking will ruin your teeth and gums.

Our gums would be the victim of excessive pain if our teeth do not grow properly. Regular visits to your dentists can help monitor their movement and growth. If dentists cannot accommodate the wear and tear your teeth provides, chances are you will be referred to an orthodontist for checking.

Once this happens, do not worry. It is merely a precaution since dentists just want to make sure that their theories are supported by specialists. These are two different fields and to avoid problems and blame, it would be best to see what an orthodontist would advice once they check your teeth and gums out.

When we eat, we rarely notice the proper way our teeth would sink its teeth into the meals we digest. For most, it is a matter of chewing and digesting them to get into our stomachs. But what we fail to realize is that should we fail to notice proper biting, out teeth and gums will be the ones to suffer in the end.

Our teeth and gums are normal as any parts of our body. They suffer trauma if too much pressure is applied each time we bite. Make sure to have your teeth checked. If a dentist cannot fix them, an orthodontist will.

To understand how to make our teeth whiter, we must first take into account what turns them into yellowish ugly choppers. A teeth is porous and therefore is not immune to stain or discoloration. The food that we eat, the drinks that we drink, the medication, the habits, even traumas or falls can cause discoloration. Coffee and tea, two of the popular sources of caffeine for most people, is a major contaminant of white teeth. Nicotine and tar along with the other chemicals in a smoke can tarnish the white gleam as well. A fall directly to the teeth can cause tooth death or tooth necrosis which causes discoloration.

More than 10,000 children with severe dental problems are waiting up to seven years for corrective treatment on the NHS. Orthodontists have warned that in many cases the children suffer from much more serious problems by the time they are finally given treatment. These can include jaw deformities and an inability to bite properly. They also warned that the government’s introduction of an 18-week waiting time target for orthodontics at the end of the year would be so difficult to meet that patients would not be referred at all and treatment would be rationed further.Evidence of the collapse in orthodontics in parts of the country is revealed in research by the British Orthodontic Society (BOS).

Look at yearbook or prom pictures from the 1950s or ’60s and you’ll see many smiles framed with heavy metal braces, a sight that’s increasingly rare on today’s high school campuses. Why the change? Children today tend to get braces at a much earlier age. It’s not uncommon for a patient as young as 7 or earlier to begin orthodontic treatment.
