Mouthwash, also known as mouth rinse, is an oral product used for oral hygiene. Most mouth rinse contain antiseptic and anti-plaque ingredients that purportedly have properties to eliminate the bacteria plaque causes carry, gingivitis, and bad breath.

Anti-cavity mouth rinses that have fluoride help protect against tooth decay. Though this may be the case, it is generally agreed upon in the orthopedic society that the use of mouthwash does not nullify the need for standard oral hygiene such as brushing and flossing. If ready-made mouthwash is not available, gargling with water will suffice in removing food particles and other materials in the mouth.
