Clinical whitening Part 2
Filed under InformationNov 10The difference between a one-session whitening regime and a multiple-session whitening regime is the potential of tooth sensitivity. Since one-session regimes are typically short, lasting around 45 minutes, the whitening process is drastically hastened and the teeth experience stress. Also, very potent whitening agents are used which are bound to increase the potential for tooth sensitivity.
On the other hand, multiple-sessions use whitening gels which are applied on to the teeth with special guards so that the lips and gums are protected. These are then activated by a special lamp that accelerates the process. The procedure is repeatedly performed in the course of three sessions by the time which the teeth will have whitened dramatically by several shades.
